Municipality of CARASI

Batas Pambansa Bilang 377, Local Government Code under Executive Proclamation No 2289 date May 16, 1983, created the town proper of Carasi which as formerly a Municipal District of Piddig, Ilocos Norte. The town before the legendary called "Parparia." Since Carasi is located in the northern part of the town, upon having the power, Unfiel have brought down the name Carasi and called it "Parparia Carasi." The then Carasi is at present a barangay north of the town known as Barangay Angset.

The Town of Carasi is 38 kilometers north of the capital city of Laoag and 527 kilometers from Manila with a total land area of 19,702.02 hectares having three barangays. It is bounded by the towns of Vintar on the north, Calanasan, Kalinga-Apayao on the east, Solsona on the south and Piddig, its mother units in the west. The town is hilly and usually barren during the hot season. Its climate is similar to that of Laoag City.

The people are hospitable and still adhere to the Isneg tribes characteristics and beliefs. They also celebrate weddings and baptismals with corresponding rituals.

The primary means of livelihood is farming. The major crops are rice, gabi and fruits trees. The people are also engaged in hunting, gathering of forest products (orchids, medicinal plants) and weaving mats and basket from rattan and bamboos.

The mode of transportation to reach the place is through private utility vehicles being manned by the Piddig residents. There is an elementary school located southwest of the Municipal Hall building. There is also a high school and a primary school. The available sports facilities are basketball and volleyball courts located at the town plaza. No commercial building is constructed, only small sari-sari stores can be found.

Only a few tourist spots have been located in the municipality. One of which is the NIA-In-Take, a favorite picnic ground of visitors coming to this town. Another is the 100-meter Lammin Water Falls where iron ores are scattered along the road going to it, and the Kimmulloong Water Falls located at the eastern part of the town.
